Description
Web Id: 1143663This 23ft wide elevator brownstone is located on one of New York's most beautiful blocks. The house was described by Christopher Grey of the New York Times as one of the "most intact" houses on the block. It was built during the American Renaissance Revival period by the architects Douglas and John Jardine for the developer Edward Kilpatrick. Work on the house began on May 5th, 1883, and it was completed April 2nd, 1884. In 1910 a large addition was built. There have only been four occupants in the over 130 year history of this home : The Fitzpatrick's, for whom it was built; the Outerbridge's were the 2nd family; the Halfman's the 3rd; and the present owners who bought the house in 1956. They paneled many rooms and completed a second small addition. This is the first time the house has been on the market in over 50 years. Located on the North side of 80th Street between Park and Madison Avenues, this elevator townhouse has 5 full floors plus a basement. Outdoor space includes a back garden, a terrace and a small front garden. As you enter the lovely vestibule on the Parlor floor, the original wooden balustrade in the entry continues to the 5th floor. Also on this floor, period Queen Anne paneling was used on the walls and the original pocket doors are still there. There are 2 large arched windows in the Living Room and 3 unusual stained glass windows in the Library. There are 5 Bedrooms, 4.5 baths and fireplaces in almost every room. Most of the fireplaces are decorative, but one is wood-burning and others were originally gas. The house has 12 foot ceilings and many intact original details, such as decorative plaster ceilings, moldings, inlaid floors, stained glass windows and some bathroom tiles. The huge 25 ft Master Bedroom has a bow front window facing south onto 80th Street. The 4th floor features a paneled bedroom. The 5th floor has large skylights and one room has a 16' ceiling. The first 2 floors each measure 23'x 95'. The basement is 23' x 65'. The elevator was installed in 1924. The foundation is almost 2'. First showing: January 14th, 2010
